Background

This is a recipe for an apple charlotte, a bread-like soft cake with a hard, sweet crust

Ingredients

Cooking

Start by mixing together the eggs with the sugar in a bowl until the sugar has dissolved, afterwards the flour is added and mixed in as well. The mixture is supposed to be slightly thick but still watery.

You can now preheat the oven to 180c.

The apples are cut into slightly thin slices (about 0.5cm) and then deskinned. Put those onto the base of your cake mould, it should cover the base of the mould and try not to overlay any apples. If you have too little, cut another apple.

Once you're done, pour the mix from before onto the apples in the mould and shake it to remove air bubbles. After that, the cake is ready to be placed in the oven for 40 minutes.

After the 40 minutes, place a toothpick to check if it finished cooking. If the toothpick is still wet, it needs to cook for longer.

Serving

You can eat this cake either still hot or when cooled. I really enjoyed eating the charlotte whilst hot and with vanilla ice cream to cool it down.

If you prefer it cooler, then you can just sprinkle on top powdered sugar.
