--- author: Jae title: Red Bean Sauce created_at: 2024-12-14T19:28:00+01:00 description: This is a recipe for a red bean sauce, which is vegan tags: - sauce - beans - vegan --- ## Background This recipe will give about 4 portions of bean sauce that you can add to rice or any carb of your choosing. The recipe is also vegan which is nice to have sometimes, or good if you're vegan or vegetarian. ## Ingredients - 1 medium onion - 2 celery stalks - 1 bell pepper - 500 grams of black beans or kidney beans - 400 grams tomato puree - 2 tablespoons smoked paprika - 2 teaspoons ground cumin - 2 bay leaves - chili flakes - salt For this recipe i use already soaked beans, but you can buy dried ones and soak them yourself overnight, although this requires more preparation. ## Cooking 1: Cut the onion, celery, and bell pepper into small chunks and add them together with the spices into an oiled pot, add however much chili flakes you are comfortable with. Let that cook on high heat until all the water has evaporated from the vegetables. 2: Add your beans and tomato puree together with some water and bring to a low boil. Let this cook for about 20 minutes. 3: Salt to taste. ## Serving This dish is perfectly served with some rice. I prefer jasmine rice, although any rice would work. ![Red bean sauce served with rice](../media/red_bean_sauce_with_rice.jpg)
